Border Reiver Show Report.

On Saturday 17th September we put on a demo game based on the early war in the desert 1940.

Our game attracted alot of attention due to the diligent preparation and figures, tanks etc from Dave and Paul-well done lads.We were greeted by a member of BR club and were given the best of attention throughout the day-many thanks for that! A "Burger" van provided the food and drink for the day,as the usual cafe facilities weren't available-they did a sterling job and were kept busy all day.As WW2 is not my thing,I was able to look around the traders and games-everyone I spoke to said the day was good and profitable!!-there were games covering very diverse periods, from Sci-FI to WW1 aerial,Jacobite,Wild West, and WW2,Bronze age etc.-a big well done must go out to all who put on these game-without them there would be no show!!

A view down the hall from our table-the "foot-fall" seemed good,I didn't get any figures, but overall the attendance was good.

Two shots of our game-British vs Italians, quite a few people said it was good to see a "different" side of WW2 as opposed to the usual European theatre of operations.-There's always a down side to shows of course...............................

He's like a boil-pops up when you're least expecting it!!!-he'll probably pop up at Battleground at Stockton on the 26th November-we'll be ready for him though!

I really should have taken more photo's,but I was too busy enjoying  myself-perhaps Paul could post some more???

` 15mm houses.

A while back I bought three wooden Christmas decorations(c/w LED lights) to fit in with my 15mm figures-well,I thought I needed at least three more,so "toddled off" to Hobby Craft shop in the Team Valley to buy them.Whilst there I spotted some wooden "fascia" type Xmas decorations-three different types for a pound!!-so I bought two lots to make back and front for more, but bigger, houses, but still in the 15mm bracket.

Said items-the houses(c/w LED lights) were three pounds each, whilst the wooden decorations were one pound !!

I carefully removed the LED lights-the switch made them impossible to stand level, and started the measuring and cutting for the bigger houses.

I cut the walls for all three houses, and marked them in case I got confused as to which wall belonged to which house-I'm old you know, these things happen!!

Everything was going "swimmingly" until the last very tall building.......................

Bloody Super Glue!!-it went everywhere but the place it should have!!-fingers covered in bits of card and paper-it certainly lived up to its name-stuck fast and nothing square-the man who invented this stuff should be shot with s--t!!

Having calmed down-THE WIFE thought I was having a heart attack!!-I got stuck(no pun intended!) in to making the roofs-again careful measuring was required, but the end result was ok._apart from the mess of the taller building!!

All three complete-note I have put the "mess" at the back of the photograph!!

Some 15mm ECW figures to show the size compared with the figures-not bad,I think!

A quick coat of felt-tipped pen on the roofs, for the complete smaller houses, and they are ready to go. I love these small projects really!!

Solo update.

As I mentioned in the last blog, solo gaming is keeping me occupied,as you can see from the following photograph.....................

Ah,wargaming at its very best!!!!

I also mentioned that I had received from Warrior,a few Korean Auxiliaries, which can also be used as fully fledged Koreans-they are nice figures but my painting doesn't do them justice.

These three photo's are of my Mongols and Koreans-more Mongols than Koreans but the infantry can be inter-changed.

Top photo shows Korean Spearmen, bottom shows Korean Bowmen and Spears-the very bright colours are "authentic"-honest!!!-mixed in with the Koreans were catapults which fired all kinds of explosive things-so watch out Mongols!!

Catapults are from local museum, and are in fact pencil sharpeners!!

We won't be playing this Sunday,as we are putting on a WW2 Desert game at "Border Reiver" show on Saturday at the Gateshead Stadium-see you there??

B.O.B.-back on blog!

Because I haven't been too well lately(Trigeminal Neuralgia!!) I have neglected the blog-my apologies. But now that I'm responding to the drugs,I feel alot better-the frequency has diminished but not the severity of pain-so I have re-connected to my blog-hurrah!!

I had a few hours at Charlie Wesencraft's house  a couple of weeks ago-he was showing me a new game he has devised-at 94 he is still devising games, methods etc to improve his wargaming-what a guy!!

His new game has sections of not-so new methods but was entertaining nevertheless!

The rest of the "boys" are painting furiously-Brian is painting a Dark Age Irish army, which he hopes will beat my Viking Army-no chance matey!! Graham is painting Peninsular Spanish,Portuguese,German,British and French-when will it ever end,and most importantly, when will we ever see them on the board?????-as well as his mountainous collection of WW2 tanks etc.-come on Graham, let's see them in action!

Paul and Dave have finished their WW2 desert project, which we hope to display at Border Reiver show at Gateshead on the 17th of this month-looking forward to that!

I have received, after a bit of a delay(but understandable) a bunch of Koreans, from Warrior-they are painted and ready to face the dreaded Mongols any time soon-the Mongols invaded Korea 4 times!! and never really beat them-we'll see!!

I have taken to another bout of solo games, starting with ECW,using my 15mm armies and "red pom-pom" rules!

A simple attack/defence game, keeping me out of mischief!

I will endeavour to keep the blog going on my "usual" weekly basis from now on.
