Not feeling too grand today,so will make this blog shortish!
Graham,Brian and I played this Greek vs Greek game last night, which resulted in a resounding defeat for the Spartans(ME!!)
Scenario and table lay-out,I was Spartans,Graham was Thebans and Plateans, whilst Brian was Athenians.
Attack and counter-attack across the stream!!
Top photo shows the struggle in the centre, bottom photo shows the struggle on the Spartan right flank(including a cavalry battle!)
My Corinthian allies retiring(it's good being retired!!)-an omen of doom!
Fragmented lines in the centre and right flank-methinks it's all over!!
All is lost for the Spartan cause!!
Despite the brevity of this blog, this was a good game(lasting 13 moves!) and my brilliant plan was thwarted by some terrible dice throws-there's always a next time!!
roll on next Sunday.
I always wanted to do Hoplite battles, but never got round to painting all my figures, well done!
ReplyDeleteCheers Herky, get round to painting those figures!!-you'll be rewarded with some good games.

Hope that you feel better soon. Did the skirmishers have much of a role or was it overwhelmingly down to the clash of the heavies (and your diabolical dice?!)? Cheers, Chris
ReplyDeleteHi Chris, the skirmishers did some initial damage, and, surprisingly, were used correctly by us all!!
DeleteGot your "heliograph" info today, and your proposed dates-will ask the "lads" which date is best.

Great looking game as usual - are the figures from the Warrior range? I am very tempted to have a stab at the ancients period as I have couple of the Warrior armies ( what a bargain at 40 quid!) to paint.
ReplyDeleteI was put off the period during the 1980's by the use of WRG rules (6 or 7th edition) and the idea of playing games with armies that were incompatible historically. At one games night at a club I belonged to at the time someone suggested that his 25mm Celts could take on my 15mm Norman army: what a totally silly idea.
David
Davidp-yes all the figures are from Warrior's range-he does some fine-detailed Hoplites at 40 quid for 100!!-as for WRG,never rated them enough to try them-that says it all-but Ancient wargaming is my favourite period, and have loads of armies, regards
