A couple of readers asked if I would post some photo's of my 15mm Warrior Miniatures English Civil War figures,so here goes:-
Top photo is the Parliamentarian army,I have used most of the figures supplied, but still have a few Musketeers left over.Bottom photo is a detail of one of my regiments-9 pikes,1 standard bearer,2 officers and 8 musketeers, making a total of 20 figs.,and I have 4 regiments,plus........
An artillery piece, with 4 crew, and 9 cavalry figures-in the background you can see a Brigadier figure with 2 standard bearers,on for the green brigade and one for the russet brigade-not bad for the price!!
I have done exactly the same for the Royalists, and I have used the free flags from Warflags 25mm range for both armies.
Final two photo's-I am quite pleased with the results, but have had to adapt my "never great at the best of times" painting technique to suit these little devils!!
Top photo is the army that is sent(look at the price!!) and bottom is the extensive range that Warrior do-very impressive!
I get this publication sent every couple of months, and if you haven't already got onto it,you're missing out on hundreds of inexpensive books covering every conceivable period in history, including lots of wargaming ones.
Now for a conundrum.................................
I received this book in the post two weeks ago-I didn't order it,and don't know who did-it has been paid for(£4.51!)-I have asked friends and family if they sent it,but have no clue as to who did.It is a translation from Spanish to English, and contains some interesting illustrations(while not exactly accurate),but is a good read/reference for anyone studying the Zulu War. Can anyone out there enlighten me??
That painting style of yours is very effective - those little chaps look great
ReplyDeleteAhoy MJT-thanks for your comment-I have never been a good painter, but get 'em on the board fast!!cheers,

Great 15mm figures, look really effective.
ReplyDeleteHi Allan, good to hear from you, painting is in the eye of the beholder, and I tend not to have great eyesight these days!! Many thanks for the kind comment .

Nice work. If I recall, Gallia 15mm really are tiny, do well done. I couldn't paint that scale myself nowadays.
ReplyDeleteHi Mike,as I said I did struggle with this scale, but,as usual, I opted to paint over what I deemed as "superfulous" detail!!
DeletePainting is very "personal" I think, but I'm quite happy with the result so far-i have just received two more armies, and am raring to go.

Hi John. Great work on the mini-ECW figures. One of my favourite periods but difficult to represent the fighting? I bought you the Isandlawana book. I've a few by Quiron Ediciones mostly on SCW. I thought that it might give some new incite as written by a Spaniard, was a good price and topical with the games you'd staged recently. Cheers, Chris :-)
ReplyDeleteChris, you're a "little tinker"-I've had sleepless nights, worrying myself sick in case I had to pay for it(NOT!!)-glad you like the mini-ECW-see you at Stockton.

See you there. I've got what I consider the bible for ECW uniforms winging its way to you. You may already have it cos it is truly necessary! In which case feel free to pass it on to some other worthy chap
DeleteCheers
Chris
Chris,I have this book, signed by the author, don't waste your money on me(I already do that!) I have books on every period that we game, and although I appreciate the thought,My bookcase is groaning under the weight already,
Deletecheers,johnc
Glad to hear you weren't trying to get by without that vital book. It was cheap as chips and I'm sure I must at least owe you some chips. Pass it on to some worthy as it's an inspiration. I look forward to seeing you at Stockton :-)
DeleteCheers,looking forward to seeing you.

They sure are cheap! Lovely job... what rules will you use? You're own?
ReplyDeleteHi STW,thanks for the comment(although I am totally aware of my painting abilities!!) and yes I will be using our own rules-very simple but relying on historical knowledgs and research, with a few "add-ons" for solo gaming.
