Medieval siege-54mm playtest game

Whilst at Border Reiver show last Saturday,we were asked to put on a demo game at a new show-"Stand To" at Shildon on October 19th 2014,by the show's organiser ,Ken. So last night Paul'Brian and I ran through the game we intend to put on-a variation of Saturday's game, but playing the siege part through.

I was in charge of the Castle and relieving forces of Flemish Knights,Paul was directly opposing the relief force, and Brian was assaulting the Castle.

After a tentative start, the cavalry got to grips on my right flank-Paul was not going to be lured from his hill position, but I was determined to keep moving forward and brave the slings and arrows of outrageous misfortune!!

On move 4 the siege towers made contact with the castle walls, and started the most exciting part of the battle, because I had ordered three units of Knights to "sortie" from the castle as soon as the towers hit the walls. My objective for the sortie troops was to knock out Brian's catapults, being guarded by units of spearmen!!

Whilst the cavalry slug it out on the flanks,my Knights advance towards Paul's position-Paul's very relaxed posture is worrying-why isn't he panicking?

This shows my sortie troops advancing onto Brian's catapults and spearmen, whilst in the background, the first line of infantry have clashed.

Brian's attack on the castle was successful, and within three moves the castle defenders had deserted their posts and fled!!What to do,what to do!!

In the background,Paul's cavalry are giving my cavalry a right old hammering, but on this near flank,I am driving him back,as well as my infantry knights winning in the centre-however with the castle being subjected to all the excesses you would expect from a winning force, all could be lost!!

One final photo,Paul's cavalry are showing their tails, and taking off between the infantry lines, but,as mentioned, the castle was taken, and I had to admit defeat-however defeat is not dishonour!!

This was a good test game,we ironed out s few problems, and we are sure we can put on a good display at Ken's show.
An ancients game is being planned for Sunday-roll on!!

Medieval-Moors vs Spanish

We didn't have a club game on Sunday, but I'll "blog" a game Paul and I had a while ago now.
If my memory serves me well, this is the game that Paul threw five 5's in a row and destroyed my army of Spaniards!!

I was "La Tossa" and Paul was Ben-Y'Il,I can't remember too much about the game as my mind obviously has tried to block it out!!

My cavalry out-numbered Paul's and he was at a disadvantage being lighter types-and I still lost all melees!!!!

Even with "La Tossa" shouting encouragement from the safety of his hill,I was still being driven back-perhaps the assault on the village will be better........

Well,it looks good, and I'm about to surround the village-maybe,just maybe!!!

It doesn't look as if I am making any headway, but the world loves a trier!!

Oh dear!!-it looks as if I am being surrounded in this shot, and still "La Tossa" is shouting encouragement!!!

The church is still burning, and my cavalry are still running, but what about the village?

It was holding out-I obviously didn't want to take a photo of it!!Paul was the worthy winner, however after the game I think I took the dice he was using and burned it along with the church!!

Hopefully we will be playing on Thursday and Sunday this week.
Brian is not well at the moment,so get well soon, mate.

Medieval "Test" game

Last week we were lucky enough to be accepted to put on a demonstration game at Border Reiver in September,so we had a bit of a run through of our proposed game, last night.
The figures we are using are "different",in that they are 54mm Plastics, bought from the Pound Shops,at a ridiculously low price of £60 for the whole lot!!-we would love some comments.

Basically,it will be a siege game, with a large battle going on to the right of the castle. The following photo's will give you a sense of what we hope to achieve.........

Some good points for discussion were raised during the game, and various rule "amendments" will have to be made, but all in all a very satisfactory game.......

Of course we couldn't forget the ongoing siege-this was purely a "decoration" last night, but on the day we will be fighting it as a separate game!

A picture of the King, with his hound dog!!-is it Elvis??? followed by a picture of the French King..

Frightening!!!

We all enjoyed the challenge last night, and hopefully,by September,we will have it all sewn up,with tactics and formations worked out, ready to show the wargaming public, that you don't have to spend a fortune to have a stunning wargame!!

Roll on Thursday-Brian's Caesarians again,vs British tribes(again!)
