A Very Happy Christmas-Gladius!

I thought I might share some of my Xmas joy with you all.........

The "usual" pressies that a man gets at Xmas-after-shave,socks,undies,booze-but what's that lying in front of them?

It's only a replica 1st century Roman Gladius,that's all!!-I am well chuffed.

Detail on the scabbard is excellent-who else but a great wife would have thought of a present like this?
The next Roman game is going to be interesting-especially if I am losing!!!!

  3. Nice gladius. I got some sleep for my Xmas!!! I did also receive pressies, but sleep is soo precious around here at that time of the year. Translation: the kids didn't get up until 8.00 on Xmas morning!

  4. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I purchased a gladius hispaniensis a while back from a renactor suppy. What surprised me was the weight, of 2 pounds. These weren't meant for Hollywood sword fights, but for stabbing. I also found it odd that the square handle almost rolls in the hand, again pointing to the weapon as a stabbing type, and not a finesse swordfight device. Have a look at "Kult of Athena" website for accessories. Sometimes they have a sale, so keep checking back. I think I'll have to try and make a cardboard scutum next. Take care and keep the great battle posts coming!
