I have recently noticed a massive increase in the "page views" on our blog, and they are all from Russia!!-can anyone explain this, and are there any other bloggers finding the same?-Herkybird's Nest is reporting the same.
See what I mean-in one day,Wednesday 20th July I had 958 "views",all from Russia-very strange, but very gratifying if the Russians have taken an interest in our blog!!

Me too. Every few months this happens, I don't think it's anything nefarious, it's likely automated web bot data collection.
ReplyDeleteHi Doug, thanks for replying, and explanation-keep reading and commenting.

Yes had a few more than average from Russia myself. I do normally get some as I have contacts there because of Drabant but over 2000 in a week is a tad unusual.
ReplyDeleteHi Big Andy, thanks for replying-I was getting a bit worried,i must admit, but so many replies indicate that it nothing "suspicious"

Well, I am Russian and I regularly visit your blog. But I am not the one responsible for all this traffic you receive.
ReplyDeleteHi Yuri, thanks for your response to my request for clarification-keep reading and commenting.cheers,

John,
ReplyDeleteadmit it, you have been checking out Russian Brides again, and these are their replies.
What? Does she send her emails to you? But she tells me that I'm her true love!
DeleteTwo-timer!!

Hi James, couldn't cope with more than one anyway!!!
Deletejohnc(william)
Spam bots and web crawlers.... they're looking for email id's to send adverts for Philipino brides to.... ;o)
ReplyDeletePS. I show the same today
ReplyDeleteHi Steve, thanks for replying,it seems to be nothing to worry about, and maybe just a "fad"

I'm seeing the same thing on my blog. Last month, a large number of hits from Russia. Probably phishing sites trying to leave clickbait, either in comments or on the statistics page.
ReplyDeleteBut it's not as if they're trying your hack your computer, although emotionally it might feel like it.
BTW, when I look at the statistics over a single day or week, there are clear spikes, with suddenly a huge number of hits on specific instances in time. So that indicates it's an automated process, and something trying to scrape blogs en masse.
ReplyDeleteHi Phil Dutre(sorry don't know how to get an acute accent on my computer!) thanks for your informative reply,I didn't know what was happening, and obviously thought is was only me they were "hitting"
Deletejohnc(william)
It's like Donald said, "Russia, if you are listening..."!!
ReplyDeleteSimilar thing for us. We had a crazy spike back in October 2013 as well. I assume that these latest are computer driven 'hits' rather than genuine page views, as the 2013 ones were.
Hi James, good to hear from you again, and thanks for your reply-keep reading our blog and commenting,

Same here. I blame James for encouraging them. I did a post on my hits and had a few comments like your post has. First I've seen the Russian brides angle.

Hi Sun of York-of course the're not listening, the're all at the Olympics!!
DeleteThanks for taking the time to comment.
