Last night the "Fab Four"(Graham,Paul,Brian and I) had a great game pitting Romans against Dacians and Germans.
Top photo shows scenario, bottom shows troops and table-Graham was Roman commander,I was Batavian commander, whilst Brian took control of his Germans and Paul commanded the Dacians.
We're off!-top shows my Batavians forming up to face the Dacians, bottom shows Graham's troops also lining up to await the German onslaught-wake up Brian!!!
First clash!-on the far right,a cavalry battle is about to commence, but Graham has placed his cohorts too near the melee-if he loses his cavalry will disrupt his cohorts-we better hope he doesn't lose(you just know what is about to happen!!!!)
Oh dear!-both flanks disrupted, and lines broken-will Brian follow up his success??
You bet he did!-the legion(pride of Rome) is retiring(it's good being retired!)-surely they can't all fit back into the camp!?Oh double dear!!-I've seen more room in a student flat!!-hello,there's Dave,I hope he doesn't want to get into the camp as well!-no room at the Inn mate. But what of the Dacians and Batavians???
Top photo shows Brian running rampant over the Romans, bottom photo shows the "ding-dong" battle that Paul and I were having-it has to be said that my lines are neater than Paul's!
Paul has managed to drive my line backwards, and is in the process of getting his super heavy Sarmatian cavalry forward,to try and break me once and for all-oh hell!-where is the Roman heavy cavalry???There they are-all three units being held up by one Dacian warband!!!(in the background the Roman cohorts are retiring!(no I'm not going to say it!!)-all looks lost! One last look at "Camp Sardine"-the Dacians and Germans asked for a draw(sorry,I mean Brian asked for a Draw-his mind must have wandered!!) but of course it was a clear cut Dacian/German victory-well played to us all,Graham is off on Holiday next Sunday, but we have hired a hall to put on two games-one Ancients, the other a grand Napoleonic game, and hopefully we will have Chris and Michael swelling our numbers for those.
Seems that little things can make a big difference. Ne’er mind can’t win them all! Better luck on Sunday. See you there, Chris :-)
