Quatre Bras-Marlburian.

Last night,by way of a change,I thought we could fight the Napoleonic battle of Quatre Bras, but using Marlburian figures-it turned out quite well!!

The fight in Bossu Woods is shown at the top,British reinforcements arriving as shown in the bottom photo-in the background you can see Dutch troops arriving to bolster the defence at the cross roads-on the far right, the Bavariana are arriving to support the French attack on the village and cross roads.Dave was French commander and Graham was Bavarian commannder,Paul was in charge of the Brtitish and allies, whilst I was in charge of the Dutch.

Top photo shows the on-going fight in the woods, and the  French attack starting-bottom photo shows the Bavarians moving towards the Dutch, who are taking up a defensive position-grand stuff!!

Both photo's show the game/battle in full swing-the open centre is soon to be contested by cavalry! Graham has "masked" his artillery with his infantry, whilst mine is poised to inflict severe casualties on his leading troops-hurrah!!

The cavalry battle commences-it must be said that I didn't do very well!!

Graham's troops getting a right old dusting-musket and cannister fire-another hurrah!!!

Although a regiment of French cavalry caused Paul a "spot of bother",he held his nerve and secured the flank and the cross roads position.

Final photo's showing the state of play at the cross roads and my artillery still blasting the Bavarians-a good win for the British and allies, and a crushing defeat for the French and Bavarians-history repeating itself!

We won't be playing next Sunday as Paul,Dave and Graham are going down to Partizan show.

  1. Excellent idea, and Marlburians is one of my favourites as well.
The rules are easier in a way, less argueing. I think all the complications to do with the Napoleonic period clog things up.

  2. Nice idea to borrow a scenario from another period. I must try a disguised scenario sometime. I remember a mag article playing a game based on Bay of Pigs in entirety different era. Game looks grand. Cheers Chris
