Last night, the "Fab Four"(ie Paul,Dave,Brian and myself) fought a very interesting and close run game, featuring a Pyrrhic army against a Republican Roman army.
As Paul moved his left flank cavalry and infantry,to engage mine,I moved my Hastati forward to attack the Phalanx-the pila did some damage but then I was fighting at minus one from my dice against the sarrisas of the Phalanx-guess what happened???-I was beaten!-Paul moved his Spanaish troops(trained to fight Elephants) against Brian,on our left, and supported them with his Triarii.................
Paul was soundly beaten by an Elephant charge supported by infantry, from a smug looking Brian!! In the centre,I exchanged lines and put in my Princepes, surely this would put the phalanx to flight(?)
The phalanx was now being stretched and gaps were appearing along the line, but Dave was throwing some cracking dice to hold them, and my officer corps was falling like autumn leaves!!(that's quite poetic!)-the game hung in the balance!!
With the game being too close to call,we decided to count up the number of "lost" units-5 each!! so a draw was called-even Brian didn't ask for a win!!!!-This was a cracking game,so well done us.Roll on next week-don't know what we'll be playing, but as usual it will be good, and we may even have a full house-get well soon Graham.
I assume you are Ringo, John? Is there no limits to your groups talents John, a lovely looking game in a period I enjoy. Nice to see Brian assuming the position, well done.ReplyDelete
Whatever it is that you are after,we haven't got any!!-stop being nice!!!Delete
johnc-have you any 15mm painted buildings for sale?
A great looking battle. Both sides look broken in the end. Not a line in sight. Cheers, ChrisReplyDelete
Hi Chris-I despair at the lack of lines in our ancient battles-hey ho!!Delete
