Battle of the Bigley Little Horn River 1875.

Paul has posted these images,'cos my bloody camera has "burnt-out the images I took!!
The scenario was fairly close to the battle of the Little Bighorn River, but I put in some surprises just to mess things up a bit.................

These messages brought screams of laughter from everybody but Custer(Graham),but then it was Reno's turn(me!)..................
These messages reduced our firepower, allowing Paul(Sioux) and Brian (Cheyenne) to employ the usual Plains Indian tactic of encirclement! As a game it was fun-well for most of us!! see photo number six!!!!!!
Roll on next week.

Warrior Revival??

Whispers at Carronade- Warrior Miniatures may be starting up again!!-I hope so,has anyone else heard this??

Lake Trasimene 217BC.

Last night,Dave,Andy,Brian,Paul and I had a superb game, refighting this famous "ambush" involving the Carthaginian army against the Romans.Paul and I were the Romans,Andy was commanding the Carthaginian "rearguard" whilst Dave and Brian were commanding the Celts,Numidians and Spanish ambush troops.

The layout and scenario,Romans marching along the lake shore, whilst thousands of Carthaginians await the order to attack!!

Andy's command ,anticipating the Roman vanguard!-this was quite a tussle which lasted the whole game-cracking stuff!

OMG!!-the ambush is sprung, and the Romans are in trouble-we must try and form a line-Paul formed his first(at the head of the column) but I struggled, being hard pressed by Brian and his Numidians.

Andy and Paul were having a tremendous struggle for the hill,Spanish and Africans vs Roman Auxiliaries.

The gradual pushback begins!-that shoreline looks too close for comfort-Paul was doing well before Dave unleashed his Spanish cavalry-officers were dropping like flies-things were not looking good!!

Roman cohorts trying to swim with full armour on doesn't work-rules say,"in the lake, off the board"-oh dear!

Andy and Paul are still at it(steady!!) but the game is over  and history has repeated itself a glorious win for the Carthaginians-great stuff,we all enjoyed this refight.Andy,Paul and Dave are off to "Partisan" next week,so we will be depleted for another refight, of probably, Custer's last stand!

Carronade 2025. "CHICKEN DINNER!"

Our annual trip up to Carronade Show in Falkirk, proved to be our greatest triumph yet! We not only won the best Demonstration game award, but were allowd to keep the trophy,as there  was no more plaques left to fill!! so well done to us all-Brian(couldn't make the trip but contributed greatly) Andy,Nick,Chris,Michael,Paul,Dave,Graham, and myself. We put the battle of Blenheim(1704) on and the game ran as close as possible to the actual battle,we also had our "usual" array of weapons, hats, books etc. etc, at the end of our 18foot table! this once again proved to be a real draw,as did the thousands of figures, and wonderful terrain. We talked to hundreds of interested gamers and families, and of course thoroughly enjoyed ourselves-many thanks to Kenny and the rest of the Falkirk "crew",for making us so welcome-see you next year lads!!

Bottom photo shows the table layout before the show opened to the public,we set the game up on Friday afternoon,so there was no rush for the Saturday start.Top photo shows the start of the battle!

The battle in full swing-note our new corporate shirts-couldn't miss us in a storm!!

We talked and talked the whole day, about our figures, rules method of play, and wargaming in general-it was great.

Both young and "old" wanted to try on the hats and handle the weapons(steady!)-we dedicated the game to our old mate Charlie Wesencraft, and had a few of his books on display as well as a grand framed photo of him (the small girl is pointing to it and asking who he was!)

The icing on the cake!-the reflection in the polished plaques is no other than me!!-how did we celebrate?

We found this "quaint " little pub,not far from the hotel, and that's how we celebrated!!

Another successful trip across the border-we are now thinking about how we can "top" this year's game in 2026!!
