Last night,Dave,Andy,Brian,Paul and I had a superb game, refighting this famous "ambush" involving the Carthaginian army against the Romans.Paul and I were the Romans,Andy was commanding the Carthaginian "rearguard" whilst Dave and Brian were commanding the Celts,Numidians and Spanish ambush troops.
The layout and scenario,Romans marching along the lake shore, whilst thousands of Carthaginians await the order to attack!!
Andy's command ,anticipating the Roman vanguard!-this was quite a tussle which lasted the whole game-cracking stuff!OMG!!-the ambush is sprung, and the Romans are in trouble-we must try and form a line-Paul formed his first(at the head of the column) but I struggled, being hard pressed by Brian and his Numidians.
Andy and Paul were having a tremendous struggle for the hill,Spanish and Africans vs Roman Auxiliaries. The gradual pushback begins!-that shoreline looks too close for comfort-Paul was doing well before Dave unleashed his Spanish cavalry-officers were dropping like flies-things were not looking good!!
Roman cohorts trying to swim with full armour on doesn't work-rules say,"in the lake, off the board"-oh dear!Andy and Paul are still at it(steady!!) but the game is over and history has repeated itself a glorious win for the Carthaginians-great stuff,we all enjoyed this refight.Andy,Paul and Dave are off to "Partisan" next week,so we will be depleted for another refight, of probably, Custer's last stand!
Superb looking game

Another fine looking game John.
ReplyDeleteI think the aim for the Roman player in this one is to try to do better than historically. It was when we re-fought it. They (we) did not!
Best wishes, James
