I thought it might be interesting to show how I plan my solo games, step by step.
First step is to decide on a period(ancients for this game) decide on the terrain, and then think of a realistic scenario.Place the troops onto the table,to see if distances don't give one side any advantage, and balance the sides.
Write orders and tactical dispositions-this is the most interesting thing for me-I deliberate what would happen in "real life" and what problems would the commanders have to face.
Bottom photo shows the Romans marching onto the board, top shows the Gauls in position, the gaps in the terrain have been measured to only allow a certain number of bases to get through.2 bases,4 bases and 6 bases wide, matching the terrain-all set for a good game!-the Romans got absolutely "hammered" by the way!! I hope this blog isn't too self indulgent, and will possibly inspire you to try solo.
Excellent.. and very definitely not self indulgent!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the insights. I’m a big fan of planning. I have had duff games though when I’ve failed to plan them properly. Cheers, Chris
