Bargain Figures 2.

Apart from setting up a game for this Sunday(Sudanese Colonial) I have been busy painting up my first "Regiment" of British Redcoats as per the previous blog.

Three shots showing the completed "Regiment"-I hope to have eight in total to face the wrath of my Scots who have twelve "Clans"-should be interesting!

Rear view-this is what the Clans will be hoping to see!!

Detail of officer figure-must work on those buttons!! I also requested from Warrior a sample of a cavalry figure...................

The figure comes with two options for the hands-the first is as you can see in these photographs, the second is for the right hand to be holding a carbine, and all for £1.40 including the horse!! my next order will include a few of these beauties!!

Bargain figures.

For quite a while now I have been meaning to get some "correct" English infantry to fight against my Jacobite Scots.(we normally use Marlburian figures!) As you will all know,I am a great fan of Warrior Miniatures,so my natural choice was to go to my catalogue and "peruse" what was on offer.......................

This is the full range of British Redcoats, and I opted to go for the Pack F,50 figures for £20.The figures duly arrived in quick time, and I was amazed at the quality...............

The detail is very good and figures well animated, casting is crisp and need minimal cleaning up!

Detail of officer figure, and privates marching! John Holt is such a nice guy to deal with and his service is second to none-couldn't be more pleased

Private advancing, and look,he even throws in a tube of super glue to fix the muskets, halberds ,standards and swords onto the figures-absolute class!! I just hope I can do these figure justice with my painting.By the way, 50 figures for £20 works out as 40p,yes 40p, per figure!!(plus p&p)

Getting there!

We are slowly getting back into the swing of things as far as club games are concerned, and last night was no exception,we had an ENORMOUS game pitting a vast Indian army against two full Roman legions, and it was great.Brian couldn't make it,nor could Dave so that left Paul,Graham and I to do the business! But the night was enhanced by the arrival of Michael, who had travelled down from Aberdeen,so that he and Dave could pick up a vast order of terrain from Lost Valley in Hull.

This is the table as the "boys" saw it on arrival-Paul opted to command the Indians(on the left) and Graham and I commanded a legion each-with lots of Elephants and Chariots it was going to be fast and furious as well as bloody!!

we're off! it was action from move number one-the elephants are making mincemeat out of Grahams legion, but he fought back and got ready for the chariot, cavalry and infantry assault that was about to hit him-bloody marvellous stuff!

My catapults caused havoc on Pau'ls elephants attacking my legion(note "dead" figures in background!) and a massive cavalry battle is shaping up!(text and photo's have got mixed up-how?)

There they go-I got three wins in a row on this flank-unheard of in my wargaming history! but welcome nevertheless!!

Michael's arrived,he's been working in Alabama for a while, hence the sun-tanned look-great to see him after so long.

Top photo shows Graham's legion still struggling with the elephants, bottom photo shows Paul's chariots crashing into Graham's right hand cohorts-these chariots we classed as "0ne-hit-wonders" but inflicted alot of damage, which Paul's poor quality but numerous infantry would take advantage of!!

This is my right flank-Paul,for the second game in a row,put his flank commander into the fray, got him killed and the flank collapsed-hurrah!!

Top photo shows "the flank is mine!", bottom photo shows the sorry state of Graham's legion-pushed back and out-flanked-with no hope of recovery or help from me as my centre is being "mauled" by elephants!!!

One final shot showing my centre in a bit of disarray, but as I had won one flank and Paul had won one flank,we decided that a draw would be the best result!!

Another great game, played in the very best of wargaming spirit-well done to us all!

Next week we will probably be playing a Sudanese Colonial game, possibly with a full house!

JPP!!

Courtesy of Chris and Paul,I am now the proud owner of a JPP!-but what is a JPP?

Well,a JPP is a Japanese Portable Pillbox!!-this came to me as a grey resin model, which I have modified to have two machine guns,a flag and a very authentic camouflage pattern...............

Looking like something out of Doctor Who,these were apparently welded and rivetted together and transported to wherever they were need on the back of lorries!!

Detail of the pillbox, and a figure to give the scale-once we get ourselves organised ,and all figures painted,I think we'll have some fun with this little item!!

I have thought of my next "project",and it will be a Landing Craft-Phillipine Islands for the use of!!-never idle.

Project Radio Shack.

As regular readers will know,my plans and ideas for building- type projects, far outweigh my crafting and modelling abilities ! This project,to complement my WW2 Japanese infantry,is going to be a Radio Shack/HQ,but will require a "project manager",one who is skilled in tool handling(steady!) possess a cool head under pressure, has years of first class modelling and crafting experience, but above all must be terribly handsome!!-however I couldn't find anyone like that so this chap will have to do..........................................

Note PPE-well those pencils are sharp you know!!

This is the initial planning stage-meticulous planning is essential in any of my projects-when I was working(I'm retired now,I don't know if I've mentioned this before!) I excelled in organisation and methods-note meticulous drawings!

As I wanted the shack to stand on legs,I cut some doweling to length, and drilled four holes in the base-board-this is the second attempt-the first time I drilled the holes too near to the edge, and split the base-see,meticulous planning!!!!

Detail of where the ladder is going to be(BBQ skewers) note "notch" cut out for them!

Palisade, cut from a corrugated box, and glued in place with good old UHU glue.

Shack cut from same box,and also UHU glued together-everything,so far,is going quite well!

This is how the finished article will look-I have just found a bag of modelling/craft matchsticks-what could I possibly use them for?(nothing gets wasted in my house!!)

Matchsticks stuck into corrugated holes(who's a clever boy then?) to complete the palisade.

Ladder,with matchstick rungs,in place,and whole thing up on legs-not looking too bad(questionable?)

Top shows the whole thing undercoated white, but looks blue in the kitchen light!! Bottom shows the roof covered with filler,so I can texture it into looking like thatch.

Everything sprayed dark brown(only colour I had!) roof awaiting a "straw" colour to be mixed.

Finished,and ready for a "photo-shoot" in situ,I think....................

A bit rough, but worth fighting over!-I still have a few thousand matchsticks left, what could I use them for?-no wonder it takes me seconds to get to sleep at night,my brain never rests!!!
