Assaye "dress rehearsal" and club update.

Last night we had a full "dress rehearsal" of the Assaye game we are putting on at Carronade at the week-end.We had a very welcome visitor, one Charles Wesencraft, who gave us the "nod of approval for the game-praise indeed!
We ran through the game and sorted out various "technical" details, and we all were knocked out by Dave's efforts at getting the whole game together-roll on the week-end!!
I didn't take any photographs because I didn't want to minimise the impact of the game on the day-suffice to say, it will look spectacular!!
Talking of spectacular,I was in my local B&M store today, and couldn't resist the bargain of the year!! ie, we now have a new "playing surface" in the way of realistic artificial grass.Once again the pension was hammered, but the result is worth every penny, see what you think.........

The newly covered table!-I bought two 4mx1m strips, covering the whole table, with loads to spare.I had considered using tape to join the two strips, but it will look okay once it is "bedded" in, just "butt-jointing" the two halves.

A close-up of the "grass"-very realistic-in fact I was surprised not to see worms or moles!!
I put some of our much-used terrain pieces onto the table to see the effect...................

Looks good to me-I tested moving some figures around and they were good-no problems.

Farm, stream, bush and figures-can't wait to try it out for real!!

Another shot showing the terrain pieces and the grass-I tried out Romans,Normans as well as the 7YW figures and they all looked good-the dark grass seemed to bring out the colours on the figures.
Well, roll on Friday, when we will be travelling up to Falkirk, meeting Michael up there, having the game on Saturday, and travelling back on Sunday.

  2. The new grass looks very realistic.... you'll have to get the flymo out. I might consider this for some 54mm Little Wars games, as our garden is rather muddy.

    1. Hi Springinsfeld, quite a few of my "elderly" neighbours are laying this stuff in place of their existing lawns!!
We will see how it looks when we have a full blown game next week.
