Battle of Pfizer Fort 101AD.

On Thursday Paul,Graham and I had a superb Ancients game, pitting Germans and Dacians against Romans-Unfortunately Brian couldn't make it as his wife,Sally, was in hospital-we wish her well!

This is the scenario and initial troop dispositions-Graham was in charge of the Germans,I commanded the Dacians and Paul gallantly commanded both Legions(and a damned fine job he made of it too!)

Graham attacked the Aux. legion with his warbands and cavalry-Paul responded in kind, and a grand old ding-dong of a melee took place for the whole game-marvellous stuff!!

Top photo shows the two lines advancing towards each other, bottom photo shows the inevitable charge and clash!!-Paul had the advantage of the dreaded Pila, but I had a two handed weapon(the also dreaded Falx!) so the melee swayed this way and that along the line, neither of us gaining a real advantage.

These two photo's show the Aux.Legion and the Germans still slugging it out-but now Graham has gained the far flank, which put the whole Legion in jeopardy-if only my Dacians can do the same!!!

I now threw my cavalry in against the Roman cavalry-both had the same points,so it would be down to dice throws to decide the winner!-impossible odds of course against Paul(the Devil's son!) but the melee went on for three moves before I eventually lost the melee and the flank-the nice neat lines of infantry are now becoming fragmented.........................

Officers were now falling like flies, and the result of this saw units on both sides falling back, and retiring(it's good being retired!)-but the Romans have more units left than the Dacians-oh dear!!

Just look at that-you would almost think he knew what he was doing!!!-the Germans have taken the flank, and most(but not all) of my front line warbands have disappeared-so we decided that  a draw would be fair-I still controlled the approach to the fort, but Paul had un-committed cohorts,so to save further bloodshed we called it a day-fantastic game, good banter, awful jokes, but wouldn't have it any other way-well done lads.

We have decided to play again on Sunday(which we always used to before this awful virus) and hopefully the whole "team" can turn up-fingers crossed!!

One final shot showing the state of the Dacians!! Roll on Sunday-probably a Marlburian game.
